Installation
Run the installation program by
double-clicking on the PFrankSetup file. This will by default, create a
folder called PFrank under your "Program Files" folder. The
program can be accessed from this folder or can be accessed via the Start
menu under Programs. The Start menu
contains shortcuts to the PFrank program, Help documentation, and the PFrank uninstall program.
A configuration file called "Config" which stores the user configuration
is also created under a second PFrank folder. This
folder is located
under the "Application Data" folder.
The location of the "Application Data" folder is dependent on the
operating system.
-
For Windows XP/2000 systems, the
path for the "Application Data" folder is usually:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data.
-
For Windows NT systems, the path for the "Application Data" folder is usually:
C:\Winnt\Profiles\\<username>\Application Data.
-
For Windows ME/98 systems (profiles disabled),
the path for the "Application Data" folder is usually:
C:\Windows\Application Data.
-
For Windows ME/98 systems (profiles enabled),
the path for the "Application Data" folder is usually:
C:\Windows\Profiles\<username>\Application Data.
-
For Windows 95 systems,
the path for the "Application Data" folder is usually:
C:\Windows\Application Data.
A logfile
called "PFrank.log" which stores
records of unexpected events is created under the "Application Data" PFrank folder.
In some cases (like a startup error),
a logfile called "PFrank.exe.log"
is created under the
"Program Files" PFrank folder.
Uninstall
You can uninstall PFrank either by double-clicking the "Uninstall PFrank" icon
under the start menu mentioned above, or by invoking the windows control panel,
double-clicking on add/remove programs, and then choosing the PFrank item.
When uninstalling, the PFrank folders and their contents are removed. This would
include the any saved configuration files if they are in the PFrank folder.
Any associated register entries are also removed.
Installing New Version
Unless specified otherwise, you can install new versions of PFrank without uninstalling
previous versions.
One Instance Per User
Only one instance of PFrank can be run per user. This prevents uncoordinated access to the
configuration file. If you attempt to run multiple instances, you will see a message box
pop up which tells you that: "Errors have occurred. See the PFrank.exe.log file for details".
This log file can be found under the
"Program Files" PFrank folder.
